Trust Annual Inspections 2025
Each year the Whitsunday Rivers Improvement Trust conducts a site inspection tour for all Trust members to view works that have been previously undertaken, are in process, being proposed, or requested by community members. This gives our members an understanding of what has been achieved, also if decisions on works are pending, to see more accurately what the problems are and what the effects of carrying out or not carrying out those works could be. This assists in decision making ascertaining if previous works have been successful and if proposed works will be in line with the Trusts objectives giving sufficient community benefit for expenditure.
This year’s tour took us out to Glen Isla and an inspection of the current lots owned by the Trust. We were joined by Peter Jefferies (a previous Trust Overseer for many years) who gave Trust members a valuable insight into some of the history of the Trust and past works undertaken including details of the levy system and the breakaway.
We inspected the O’Connell River Protection and Revegetation Works at Lethebrooke. These works have been successful in reducing erosion of the riverbank and the Revegetation and Mangroves in the area are becoming well established.
We moved on to view some proposed projects from Community Members including clearing works at Myrtle Creek consisting of fallen trees, snags and re-growth with certain debris dating back to Cyclone Debbie in 2017 and continuing to cause restrictions to flow in the creek.
Trust members were updated by our Engineer on Council / State Government projects that the Trust has been consulted on.
We finished our tour visiting the Proserpine River Revegetation Works including a review of potential future stream clearing works. Plants on the completed section were well established, and an area was identified to continue the revegetation works along the next section of the bank in 2025/26.
